PRACTICE
AREAS
FIRST AMENDMENT LAW
We have litigated numerous cases presenting complex questions of First Amendment law, including prior restraints, libel, invasion of privacy, reporter's privilege, and retaliation for editorial content, in courts across the nation. We have also authored numerous articles in trade journals on these subjects and are listed in The Best Lawyers in America and Super Lawyers in the area of First Amendment litigation.
CIVIL LITIGATION
We have handled dozens of commercial disputes, both in pre-litigation negotiations and in court, including breach of contract, unfair competition, tortious interference, and associated business disputes.
INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY
We have litigated many right of publicity, trade dress and trade secrets cases in Colorado and California state courts, and copyright and trademark cases throughout the country.
APPELLATE PRACTICE
In addition to having litigated more than 50 appellate cases in both state and federal courts across the nation, Steve has authored numerous amicus briefs, including before the United States Supreme Court, and has assisted other counsel in preparing for oral argument. link
OUR VISION
With a combined 40 years of experience and well-honed expertise in media, First Amendment, intellectual property, civil litigation and appellate practice, Zansberg Beylkin LLC is committed to protecting its clients’ rights and help them resolve legal disputes in efficient, cost effective ways.
Having devoted our legal careers to defending freedom of speech, “or of The Press,” Steve & Mike left “Big Law” to set up their small boutique firm with minimal overhead costs. The primary reason: to offer their services at dramatically lower rates, which the news industry – beset by unprecedented economic challenges – requires to survive and flourish.
We also contribute hundreds of hours annually to pro bono representation of reporters, news outlets, and others in seeking access, under freedom of information laws, to governmental records, and working to improve statutes, regulations, and court rules governing such access.
